Welcome to the West Elk Library!
Another summoer has passed and I am excited to be back in school and welcome you to the West Elk School Library. The links on the left will allow you to access some of the most commonly used library resources. We can guide you through these, the Kansas State Library site, or other resources you may need. Over the summer, we got a new cataloging system. Use the researcher link, that will allow you to see the books we have in the library while at home and put books on hold. Whether you need research help, book recommendations, or just want to talk about books, we are here to help in any way we can.
"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers."Charles W. Eliot
MackinVIA is a new site that our students have access to in which they can check out e-books. The link for it is located in the Library Quick Links section at the top left of this webpage. Currently we have access to around 1000 books for students from K-8. Soon, there will be access to the Kansas State Library resources through this portal. The advantage of this is that we can put only age appropriate content on the website. That way, students of all ages in our district can benefit from the Kansas State Library resources.
We had a great time meeting Gordon Korman (pictured to the right) on Zoom on October 3rd. He is one of the 2019-2020 winners of the William Allen White Award. He told us about how he wrote his first book and the inspiration behind the winning book, Restart. Afterwards, we got a chance to ask questions of both he and Dusti Bowling, the writer of The Insignificant Life of a Cactus.
