Where are they now?

Greg Harrod graduated from West Elk High School in 1988. He received a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University in May, 1993. Later that month, he married and moved to Peoria, Illinois to work for Caterpillar, Inc. In 1998, Greg and his wife, Angie, moved to Brisbane, Australia to develop mining software for Caterpillar.

In May of 2000, he took a job with Johnson Controls, and relocated to Wichita, Kansas. He currently serves as the Engineering Manager for the Residential Systems and Controls group. Greg, Angie, and their three sons live in northwest Wichita, and enjoy visiting family in Howard often. Greg's parents, Mary and Jerry Harrod, and his brother Gary and wife, Lisa, live in Howard. His nieces, Kayla, senior, and Ashley, eighth grade, are students at West Elk.

 

Growing at Moline Preschool

P.M. Class

Students at Moline Preschool did lots of growing this semester.  They planted tomatoes, peppers, sunflowers, and marigolds.   Their plants taught them about recycling (reusing their milk cartons), nutrition, science, and math skills.  The students are currently keeping a journal about their sunflowers.  They predicted what they think their sunflowers will look like in a month.  They are measuring and recording changes in their plants each week.

FCCLA State Convention

FCCLA members traveled to Wichita to attend State FCCLA convention on April 11th. Sunday night they relaxed and had a pizza party. Monday Kate Kill attended a district officers meeting and then later everyone attended the opening session which was followed by a dance.

Tuesday morning they attended sessions then broke out into groups to listen to speakers. Kayla and Alex listened to Matt Christensen about strategies to become successful, Tresse and Becky attended building your foundation with leadership by Bob Mckenny and Kate Kill attended one about being the difference by Dustin Gaylon.  

Kate Kill and Kayla Harrod will also be attending Nationals in Chicago in July .

  

 

 
Off to State Music

Students going to State Music Festival:  L-R: Kayla Jacobs, Larry Berry, Zack Carlson, Kevin Love.  To qualify for state music students must achive a first division rating at regional.  Kayla, Larry and Zack qaualified on their vocal solos, Zack on his Tuba and the three boys qualified as a trio.  State music will be held on April 24 in Concordia.

 

 

 
W.E. Softball Girls Vs. Udall

The West Elk softball girls lost both games to Udall, April 19 at Udall. Both games ended with a score of 0 to 15. Next they will be playing against Elk Valley on Apr 26.

 
Baseball West Elk vs. Central

High school Boys Baseball team lost both games to Central April, 8 at Burden. Game one ended in a score of 6 to 16. The best innings played for game one were the first and second with three runs each. Ty Roebuck scored the most runs in this game with a total of two. Game two was played with the team being short one player due to injury. The final score of game two was 1 to 15.

 
W.E. Girls Triumph over Central

The W.E. softball girls won both of their games against Central Thursday night. Player Tori Whitmier stated, “I’m really excited that we beat Central, it definitely pumps me up for our next game.” They will be playing again on Mon, Apr 12 at Flint Hills
