The Chautauqua and Elk County Special Education Cooperative consists of three school districts: West Elk, Elk Valley, and Sedan. West Elk is the sponsoring school district and thus houses the Director’s office, secretarial staff, and records. A budget of over 2.3 million dollars provides for 65 staff members composed of 15 certified teachers and 50 para-professionals. A wide variety of 20 services are offered including: Early Childhood Development & Pre- School, School to Work Transition Programs, Physical Therapy, Gifted and Disability Programs. Behavioral and Learning. An administrative committee consisting of the three school district Superintendents and the Special Education Director supervises all daily operations of the cooperative. Final oversight is provided by the West Elk Board of Education.

 

Preschool Programs  

     Preschool programs designed to meet the development needs of children ages 3 through 5 are available for all residents in the school district. Each elementary school presently houses a program. Children work on language, motor, cognition, and personal-social as well as, adaptive behaviors to better prepare them for learning.
