Principal’s Corner

It is hard to believe how fast this year has gone by! Especially this time of year, a school is an extremely busy place! There are numerous activities supposed to be happening, but the weather has its own plan. We are fully engaged in Kansas State Assessments. If your child has had the opportunity, I want to thank you for having them prepared to do their best. The full nights rest and healthy breakfast truly helps to set them up for success! As we move into Common Core, or in Kansas, College and Career Ready standards, the bar will be raised, but West Elk will be prepared.

Also, during this time of year, we are preparing for the next school year. This isn’t something that just occurs overnight. Teachers are ordering supplies and, in case you haven’t heard, the Board of Education has supported smaller class sizes in the lower grades by adding two additional teachers. As a staff, we are searching for where these classrooms could be located, which is stressful, but a great problem to have! The smaller class sizes are what is educationally best for children!

Also, this time of the year, people may be thinking about where they would like their child to receive an education. If this is the case for you and that is what has brought you to this page, please feel free to call the office at (620)374-2147 and I would be happy to show you around. I am proud to be a part of the West Elk district and it would give me great joy to share it with you.
